What is Absorbable Sutures?
Absorbable sutures are surgical threads that dissolve naturally in the body over time, typically within a few weeks to several months, eliminating the need for removal . They are categorized into natural materials (e.g.,chromic catgut or plain catgut, derived from animal collagen) and synthetic materials (e.g., PDO, PGA, PGA910, PGCL25) .
🚨 Eliminate the Need for Removal: The most direct patient benefit.
👍 Superior Biocompatibility: PGA PGA910 PDO PGCL25 suture degradation process occurs through gentle hydrolysis, leading to minimal tissue irritation and inflammatory. This promotes better healing outcomes.
⚡ Enhanced Surgical Efficiency & Outcomes: Advanced designs, such as barbed sutures (e.g., PPDO), enable knotless suturing.. Furthermore, VICRYLPlus are coated with broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents like triclosan, which helps reduce the risk of surgical site infections by creating a zone of inhibition around the suture .
💪 Reliable Strength & Tailored Support: provide predictable wound support tailored to different tissue healing rates. PGA suture maintain a significant tensile strength for 2-3 weeks during critical healing phases, with complete absorption typically occurring within 56 to 70 days. PGA910 PDO PGCL suture with a range of options is available, from fast-absorbing to long-lasting (e.g., 180 days).
🌟 Excellent Handling and Versatility: Engineered for ease of use, these sutures offer smooth passage through tissue, secure knot tying, and consistent performance.
Absorbable Sutures Types
PGA Sutures
PGA (Polyglycolic Acid) suture is synthetic braided Violet color absorbable suture which the absorption time is 60-90 days. These are often used for internal tissues and are valued for its reliability and minimal tissue reaction. PGA absorbable suture is also one of the most popular used suture. USP2 to USP6/0 are pupular size. Round bodied, cutting ,taper needles with 1/2circle or 3/8circle are available

PGA Rapid Sutures
Rapid PGA (Rapid Polyglycolic Acid) suture is a fast absorbable suture which will be dissolved faster than standard PGA suture. It is undyed color and it only take around 40-45 days of absorption time. It suitable for tissues that heal quickly. This dissolvable stitches often used in surgeries like oral surgery or skin closures where rapid healing is expected.Round bodied, cutting ,taper needles with 1/2circle or 3/8circle are available

PGLA Sutures
PGLA suture is braided Violet color, also called Polyglactin 910 and Johnson called it coated Vicryl. The healing time is 56-70 days. It’s a braided absorbable suture which known for its excellent handling properties, knot security, and predictable absorption profile. QS medical can offer different sizes from USP 8/0 to USP4.Round bodied, cutting ,taper needles with 1/2circle or 3/8circle are available

PGLA Rapid Sutures
PGLA rapid suture is undyed color and fast absorbabale suture. The “Rapid” version is specifically engineered to lose tensile strength more quickly and be absorbed faster. It take around 7-10 days for tensile strength retention and complete absorption within 40-45 days. we can offer sizes from USP 8/0 to USP4.Round bodied, cutting ,taper needles with 1/2circle or 3/8circle are available

PDO Sutures
Polydioxanone (PDO) sutures are synthetic, monofilament, and absorbable, known for providing extended wound support. They retain approximately 50-60% of tensile strength after 42 days and are fully absorbed by the body within 180-210 days via hydrolysis, eliminating the need for removal . Their monofilament structure ensures minimal tissue reaction and reduced risk of infection, making them suitable for sensitive tissues and procedures requiring longer healing periods. Widely used in general surgery (e.g., abdominal wall closure, gastrointestinal procedures), orthopedics, cardiovascular surgery, and pediatric surgery . In aesthetic medicine, PDO threads are employed for non-surgical facelifts, brow lifts, and skin tightening, stimulating collagen production for natural rejuvenation

Chromic Catgut
Chromic catgut is a natural absorbable suture derived from goat or cattle intestines, treated with chromium salts to delay absorption and enhance tensile strength. It retains ~50% strength for 7–10 days and fully absorbs within 90–120 days via enzymatic degradation. Its monofilament design ensures minimal tissue reactivity and smooth handling.
it is deal for soft tissue approximation, it is widely used in gynecological surgeries (e.g., episiotomies), gastrointestinal closures, pediatric procedures, and orthopedic tendon repairs, where prolonged wound support is needed without suture removal,
USP3 to USP6/0 are pupular size. Round bodied, cutting ,taper needles with 1/2circle or 3/8circle are available
Plain Catgut
Plain catgut is a natural absorbable suture derived from purified collagen strands of sheep or cattle intestines. It maintains tensile strength for 7–10 days and is fully absorbed by the body within 60–70 days via enzymatic degradation. Its monofilament design ensures smooth handling and minimal tissue reactivity, though it may provoke a higher inflammatory response compared to synthetic alternatives.
Ideal for soft tissue approximation in areas requiring rapid healing, it is commonly used in oral surgery, pediatric procedures, ophthalmic closures, and superficial wound repair where suture removal is impractical. However, it is not recommended for wounds under tension or in high-infection-risk scenarios due to its relatively rapid absorption and variable degradation rates

PGCL25 Sutures
PGCL25 (Poliglecaprone 25) is a synthetic, absorbable monofilament suture known for its low tissue reactivity and smooth passage through tissues, minimizing trauma . It provides mid-term wound support, retaining ~60% tensile strength at 7 days and ~30% at 14 days, with complete absorption via hydrolysis within 90–120 days . Its minimal inflammatory response promotes cleaner healing, making it ideal for general soft tissue approximation in plastic surgery, gynecology, urology, and gastrointestinal procedures . However, it is not recommended for cardiovascular, neurological, or ophthalmic tissues.USP2 to USP6/0 are pupular size. Round bodied, cutting ,taper needles with 1/2circle or 3/8circle are available
